Introducing the New Northern Illinois Social Worker

Sue Bowes, MSW, LCSW, Northern Illinois Care Services Coordinator, ALS United Illinois

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Sue Bowes, MSW, LCSW, I am the newest member of the Care Services Coordinator’s here to assist you. I started with ALS United Illinois at the beginning of this year working 12 hours per week to help folks living in the Northern Illinois service area. Because I also live in the Rockford area, I serve those who may also attend ALS clinic in Madison, WI. I live with my partner, two young adult children and precocious dog, Bailey.

I have 30+ years of experience as a social worker in medical fields as well as mental health. My unique experience is also having grown up with a neuromuscular disease called spinal muscular atrophy. I have been a motorized wheelchair user since the age of 11. Secondary to my disability, I became a strong advocate and resource locator to make life easier and increase quality of life.
