Keepin’ It Real with Kellie in Central Illinois: Fall 2023
Kellie Branch-Dircks, MSW, LCSW, Central Illinois Care Services Coordinator, ALS United Illinois
Hello, Central Illinois! I hope you have had a pleasant summer and great start to the fall. I enjoyed seeing those of you who were able to attend the Champaign or Peoria Walk to Defeat ALS events in September. The Walks to Defeat ALS give the opportunity to reflect on special memories, make valuable new memories, and remind us of the support available from the Central Illinois ALS Community.
As we go into fall, and the outdoor activities of the summer weather begin to end, I encourage you to find ways to remain connected to your family, friends, and interests. The Central Illinois Support Group meets virtually the 2nd Thursday of each month, and we have our Caregiver Support Group that meets virtually the 2nd Wednesday of each month.
I want to encourage you all to live one day at a time. Make memories in every moment. The ALS journey can be overwhelming and lonely at times, but remember you are not alone. We are in this together, working for a cure, but leaning on each other for support along the way.
Enjoy your pumpkin spice lattes, cool fall nights, and comfy sweatshirts until the
next issue.
