Sarah Brandt, Director of Development, ALS United Illinois
It’s been absolutely incredible to see Team ALS continue to grow over the years, both in the number of charity runners that make up TeamALS and also in the funds raised for ALS by Team ALS!
When I started working with TeamALS, we had about 100 charity runners, which was a great group. But we’ve been able to build upon the momentum of TeamALS and raise that number to 200 charity runners this year, which will be our largest TeamALS to date. And, over the years, TeamALS has raised over $2.1 million for the cause!
This year is the 45th running of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon and will also mark it’s one millionth finisher. It’s certainly always a big, iconic race to be part of, but this year is even more special with these designations. It could even be a member of Team ALS that ends up being the BofA Chicago Marathon’s one millionth person to cross the finish line. Now that would be exciting!
On Sunday, October 8th, 45,000 participants will take to the streets of Chicago, with 200 of those representing TeamALS. It’s a true honor to get to know these special folks who make such a huge commitment, both personally and for all those who’ve been impacted by ALS. It’s beautiful to see the awareness they spread and funds they raise that truly do make a difference in the fight against ALS!
